The short answer is that the causes of IBS aren't definitive. However, there seems to be a growing view that the pace of life, medicines, farming methods, environmental pollution and bad diets are potential causes.
The human body has evolved into a resilient machine - it can repair itself when injured and fight off infection when attacked by germs. But there's a limit to how much abuse the human body can take and pain is one way the body tells us that something is wrong and we ought to listen.
